21C MUSEUM HOTEL AND EXECUTIVE CHEF JOE WEST OPEN THE SAVOY IN KANSAS CITY
Award-winning Hospitality Group to open its ninth restaurant, located in Downtown Kansas City’s historic Savoy Hotel and Grill building
21c Museum Hotels, the award-winning boutique hotel, contemporary art museum and restaurant group,is pleased to announce that The Savoy at 21c Kansas City, located at 219 West 9th Street, will open on July 3, 2018. Led by executive chef Joe West, the restaurant’s offerings will showcase the Kansas City native’s take on classic Americana, with a keen focus on a modern-day palate, delivered with exacting technique.
The Savoy at 21c is located in the former Savoy Grill and adjacent space. While many of the famed landmark’s historic architectural elements have been retained, including murals of pioneers departing from Westport Landing and their journey along the Santa Fe Trail, the banquette known as “the President’s Booth”, the stained-glass windows, and dark wood paneling — the space has been reconceived as a lounge with soft seating supplementing the built-in booths, while the dining room, by contrast, is bright and airy. Dining at The Savoy offers opportunities for both lively social gatherings and intimate shared meals, complete with a 125-seat main dining room, bar, lounge area, and separate private dining room. Each area offers distinct design details that are complementary to the entirety of the restaurant. Adjacent museum galleries showcasing contemporary art, including permanent site-specific installations and rotating curated exhibitions, will foster exploration over cocktails or following a meal.
Executive chef Joe West’s menu at The Savoy is an intentional and noteworthy throwback to mid-century modern, American classic cuisine – a contemporary nod to this beloved restaurant’s storied past. His approach is humorous and thought-provoking, with inspiration drawn from a career of exacting work among a number of some of the most meticulous kitchens. From West’s kitchen comes thoughtful, market-driven far; Scallops Menieure; Chicken Liver Mousse Tart; Gnocchi & Mushrooms. Classics will include Avocado Crab Louis; Lobster Newberg; Chicken Francaise and Prime Rib with Creamy Horseradish. To top off the perfect meal, choose Passion Fruit and Coconut Cake, Crème Brûlée or profiteroles, amongst others.
West brings over 16 years of culinary experience to 21c, having previously worked at celebrated Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, CO and the 2-Michelin star Alex at the Wynn Las Vegas. He first joined the Kansas City culinary community working at 40 Sardines, and later worked in several different positions at James Beard Award-winning restaurant Bluestem before moving on to The Cincinnatian Hotel as executive chef. He later returned to Kansas City as Executive Chef at Stock Hill. West was named one of Eater’s Young Guns in 2014.
The beverage program at The Savoy will pay homage to the rich history of the building. Cocktails are crafted with a focus on tried-and-true classics — some of which have been reinterpreted with modern techniques— along with new Savoy originals. The historical Savoy Lounge’s famed bar houses a variety of spirits, including a healthy bourbon selection. Wine offerings intend to explore environmentally conscious producers from around the world, carefully selected to complement Chef West’s fare. Guests will also find local bottled beer that will highlight Kansas City’s craft beer movement. The front-of-house team at The Savoy is led by Food and Beverage Director Scott Tipton, having previously served at a number of award-winning establishments in Kansas City, including; Julep, Manifesto, Kill Devil Club, Gram & Dun, and the R Bar.
The Savoy’s hours of operation:
5:30 pm – 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday
5:30 pm – 11:00 pm Friday and Saturday
The Savoy Lounge hours of operation:
5:00 pm – 12:00 am Sunday through Thursday
5:00 pm–1:00 am Friday and Saturday
The bar menu will be served until 12:00 am throughout the week.
Expanded hours of service will be announced at a later date in conjunction with the opening of the hotel.
